Your Proactive Resilience

Many of us neglect our work-related `Proactive Resilience’. Proactive Resilience (or Prosilience) is a term I use to describe the vital skill of change-proofing our career. It covers all the actions we can take in order to increase our change resilience long before we encounter a specific change in the organization we work for.
I had a glaring example of this phenomenon this week. Recently a very large public sector body booked me for a series of training sessions focused on providing change-resilience tools for the employees of one of its units. This unit (several hundred people) is about to undergo a drastic change in its way of operation, which will result in most of its staff needing to apply for other jobs within the organization, possible relocation, potential change in salaries and more. The unit’s leadership, in partnership with the union, decided to provide people with preparatory skills for the change which will commence in approximately eight months.
The irony? The sessions had to be cancelled due to lack of sufficient enrolment. Clearly people do not see the `writing on the wall’. They do not realize that the more proactive they will be, the less they will experience shock, upset, dismay and negativity when he change actually hits.
And you, my reader, what are YOU doing to make sure you are change-proofing yourself? How’s your own Prosilience these days?
