Nurses, Stress, Sex

The sex life of British nurses is suffering as a result of ongoing stress.
Nursing Times magazine surveyed almost 2,000 nurses, and found that 44% said their sex life was suffering as a result of excessive on-the-job stress. 24% were drinking more alcohol than usual. 13% were smoking more than usual or have started smoking, and 30% were taking more sick days than usual. 70% said they suffered from physical or mental health problems linked to work-related stress. The magazine blamed the pressure of financial deficits and the threat of job cuts in the system.
Our sex hormones are impacted by the Fight-or-Flight Response, also known as The Stress Response (which I had alluded to previously on this blog). Other major bodily systems are also impacted by the Fight-or-Flight Response, and these account for the other findings in this study: our muscles, our blood pressure, our immune and digestive systems and our emotional stability.
Stress impacts our lives and our health. It erodes the quality of the workplace and gets in the way of creating positive work environments. Here’s my question to you: What can you do today to minimize your stress by as little as one person?
