On September 21st 2015, Sharone Bar-David joined leadership host Dave Stachowiak for his “Coaching for Leaders” weekly podcast to discuss her book, Trust your Canary: Every Leader’s Guide to Taming Workplace Incivility, address the underlying beliefs that enable disrespectful work environments and inspire leaders to confidently identify, prevent and tame workplace incivility.
Regularly ranked as one of the top 20 career podcasts on iTunes, Coaching for Leaders gives listeners access to the best thinkers, experts and guests who are passionate about helping others improve their leadership skills. In 2015, host Dave Stachowiak was named in Forbes as one of the 25 Professional Networking Experts to Watch. Bringing more than a decade of Dale Carnegie leadership experience to his popular podcast and blog, Stachowiak enables individuals in senior and management roles to successfully address a wide range of workplace issues.
On the program, Bar-David brings to light how simple assumptions can quickly lead to incivility. For example, the belief “we’re like family here” results in co-workers treating each other rudely, sarcastically or in otherwise destructive ways. Another common culprit is when employees claim to know their colleagues’ sensitivities and boundaries. When this belief is present, people take liberty to say and do things that are offensive, uncivil and sometimes outright prejudiced.
