On Thursday, October 4th, 2012 Sharone Bar-David was the guest speaker at a special event hosted by the law firm of Koskie Minsky, What You Need to Know about Bill 168, Violence and Harassment in the Workplace.
The event was extremely well received by attendees, who represented a wide range of industries.
Sharone spoke about various aspects of harassment and abrasive leadership. She covered the spectrum of ‘bad behaviours at work’, why a respectful workplace is good for both for business and people, and offered three top ‘commandments’ to follow in order to create a respectful work environment.
Bill 168 is a groundbreaking legislative initiative introduced by the Ontario government in June 2011. For the first time in the province’s history, this bill established that workplace harassment is not only a human rights issue, but also a workplace health and safety risk.
At Bar-David Consulting we have for several years maintained that the physiological changes experienced by those subjected to (or observers of) workplace bullying/harassment makes this a prime health and safety issue. We were therefore thrilled with this development.
This event offered the opportunity for employers to examine how this bill impacts their business practices and we were privileged to be a part of it.
